Picture is locked in Final Cut, the mix happens somewhere else. Audio post speaks AAF — and AAF is the one target that carries everything.
File → Export XML from Final Cut Pro (.fcpxml or the .fcpxmld bundle), convert it to .aaf, and open that in Pro Tools, Media Composer or Nuendo. AAF is the richest target: volume and pan automation survive as real curves, crossfades as real dissolves, plus markers and colours.Pro Tools, Media Composer and Nuendo have read AAF for two decades. None of them reads FCPXML. So the hand-off out of Final Cut has exactly one shape that audio post can open, and this is it.
AAF is also the format that loses the least. Where FCPXML has no field for pan and Premiere XML drops moving volume automation, AAF carries volume and pan as real automation curves, crossfades as real dissolves, plus markers, clip colours and multichannel audio.
In Final Cut: select them and use Clip → Break Apart Clip Items. A compound clip hides its contents inside the XML; broken apart, every piece of audio is visible. The converter flags any it finds in the report, but fixing it in Final Cut is cleaner.
File → Export XML. Both .fcpxml and the .fcpxmld bundle work — drop either one in.
.aaf as the targetDrop the file in, pick .aaf under Output and set the frame rate of the picture edit — that is what the timecode is built from.
Under Channels, Separate combined channels writes every channel as its own mono file while the tracks stay stereo. That is the shape Pro Tools recombines into stereo on import — handed a pair of unrelated mono tracks it will not. The option applies to AAF only.
Set Media files to Collect next to output — the AAF and every referenced file land in one folder (Name/Name.aaf plus Name/Media/) that you can hand over as a whole. Then Convert, and open the AAF in your DAW.
Worth knowing: Final Cut itself has no pan field, so a pan curve can only appear in the AAF if it existed in the source. And compound or multicam clips that were not broken apart before the XML export cannot be recovered afterwards — the report names them.

Switch on Extract video audio and the sound track of .mov, .mp4 and similar files is pulled into new audio tracks that the AAF references. It is off by default because it writes new WAVs.
