What the extension does

The extension lives inside Final Cut Pro. Instead of exporting an FCPXML, opening the app and converting, you stay in Final Cut and hand the current timeline to audio post as an AAF, the format Pro Tools, Nuendo and Avid Media Composer all read.

It runs the same engine as the standalone app, so the AAF carries the same detail: automation as real curves, crossfades as real dissolves, markers, colours and per-channel mono for Pro Tools. What changes is the number of steps, not the result.

What it is not: the extension exports out of Final Cut only. The other direction (an AAF back into Final Cut), batch conversion, and the Premiere XML and FCPXML routes stay in the standalone app. And since Final Cut Pro is Mac only, so is the extension.

Install and export, step by step

  1. Install AAF Everything

    The extension comes with the app, there is nothing extra to buy. Once AAF Everything is in your Applications folder, macOS knows the extension exists.

  2. Open it in Final Cut Pro

    In Final Cut choose Window ▸ Extensions ▸ AAF Everything. The panel opens beside your timeline.

  3. Pick the target and options

    Choose AAF as the target. For Pro Tools or Nuendo, leave Separate combined channels on so stereo recombines correctly, and set collect-media if you want one movable package.

  4. Export and open in the DAW

    The extension writes the AAF from the current timeline, with a plain-text report of anything the format cannot carry. Open it in Pro Tools, Nuendo or Media Composer.

Not seeing it? Final Cut lists third-party panels under Window ▸ Extensions. If the entry is missing, open AAF Everything once, then restart Final Cut Pro.

What travels into the AAF

Worth knowing: the extension carries exactly what the app carries, because it is the same converter. Whatever a format cannot hold is named in the report, never dropped in silence.

Where is the extension after I install it?

In Final Cut Pro under Window ▸ Extensions ▸ AAF Everything. If it is not listed, open the app once and restart Final Cut.

Does the extension replace the app?

No. It adds the fast path for Final Cut to AAF. The standalone app still does the other direction, batch conversion, and the Premiere XML and FCPXML routes.

Do I need a particular Final Cut Pro?

A recent Final Cut Pro that supports workflow extensions, on macOS. There is no Windows version of Final Cut, so the extension is Mac only.

Is the extension a separate purchase?
